About Us
SWF Community Built Together
The first members began work on our premises in October 2023, leading to the grand opening of the South Woodham Ferrers Men’s Shed on the 4th April 2024. The original idea was sparked by Mister Gees Foundation, to whom we remain incredibly grateful—they secured our premises for the first two years and helped bring the Shed to life.
We were originally intended to be the SWF Community Hub and Men’s Shed, but at the time there simply wasn’t enough momentum behind the Hub. Now, in 2026, interest in the Hub is returning. If you are curious about getting involved, we’d love to hear from you.
Our initial lease ended in June 2025. Since then, we’ve taken full responsibility for the site and have been working hard to secure grants and sponsorships. Our supporters have been invaluable—without you, we simply couldn’t keep the Shed running, as the costs of maintaining the space are significant.
Thanks to the dedication of our members, SWF Shed has become a welcoming place for everyone. Our town mayor, Councillor Donna Eley, had the honour of cutting the ribbon at our official opening, marking the start of an exciting journey. David Shea, (the then Chair) of SWF Men’s Shed, shared heartfelt thanks with the community for their ongoing support.
We now have new committee members stepping into key roles, but we’re always looking for fresh ideas and volunteers to help run the Shed. Our AGM takes place every June—if you’d like to contribute, please come along and get involved.
Who is SWF for?
SWF Men's Shed is just for men.
Oh no I hear you cry! But if YOU, of any gender would be interested in opening the Shed to EVERYONE, then please get in touch ASAP!
We NEED all genders to be part of this community, so why not become a member of the SWF Community Hub? We have meeting rooms that are available for use in the morning, afternoon, evening, or ALL DAY and are accessible to all individuals, regardless of gender or age!
Since these rooms are private, you will not have to socialise with other visitors to the gym or other events because there will not be any (unless you book the back room at the same time as the Men's Shed is operating.
Please note, there is no alcohol, smoking, or pets, (Guide dogs permitted). There are two kitchenette areas with toilet facilities for a disabled user.
Raves are not allowed unless you invite the residents from upstairs.
(only joking; not even we are allowed!)
